Meet Airatren
For Airatren Stevens, Samaritan Health Center has been a lifeline in rebuilding his life.
After being released from incarceration and seeking a fresh start in Durham, Airatren learned about Samaritan through the Durham Rescue Mission. A video call registration made it easy for him to connect with the clinic, even without a driver’s license. Two years later, he’s thriving—working at the training center and living in his own rental home.
The services at Samaritan have been transformative for Airatren. Through programs like NC MedAssist and other assistance initiatives, he receives free medications he could never afford on his own. “The medications I take are very expensive, but Samaritan made it possible,” he says. Having them delivered by mail has also been a game-changer, ensuring he stays on track even when transportation is a challenge. After a stroke, referrals to Duke and financial assistance likely saved his life.
What stands out most to Airatren is Samaritan’s personal touch. “Everybody is in tune with you,” he shares. “You’re not just a name on a list—they see the whole person.”
For Airatren, Samaritan is more than a clinic; it’s a place of trust, care, and second chances. “They’ve helped keep me on track and get my life back together.”
